Get a permanent driving licence (DL)
After your learner's licence, book a driving test and get your DL by post.
Where: District Transport Office (DTO / RTA) test track
Steps
- 1
Hold a valid learner's licence for the same vehicle class.
- 2
Wait at least 30 days after getting the LL. An LL is valid for 6 months. (This rule is from the central motor vehicle rules; the Telangana page does not repeat it.)
- 3
Apply online in Form 4 and book a driving test slot. Attach 3 passport photos, and Form 1 or 1A where needed. For a transport vehicle you also need a Form 5 certificate from a driving school.
- 4
Pay the fees online.
- 5
Take the driving test at the DTO test track on your slot. When you pass, the DL is printed and sent. Track it with your application number.
- 6
Medical certificate: not needed for non-transport vehicles if you are under 50. Needed if you are 50 or older, and for all transport vehicles.
Fees
As listed on the official fee page when we checked (October 2026). Check the official page before paying.
