Vijayadashami: purnahuti of the Navaratri yagam, kalashodvasana, ayudha, vahana and shami pujas, and darshan of the goddess in her own form (nija rupa).
About this event
Vijayadashami: purnahuti of the Navaratri yagam, kalashodvasana, ayudha, vahana and shami pujas, and darshan of the goddess in her own form (nija rupa). Sri Bhadrakali Ammavari Jalakreedotsavam (teppotsavam, the float festival on the lake) at 7 pm. Nityahnikam at 4 am every day. Darshan 4 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 8 pm (madhyahna puja 12 to 1). Part of the Sri Bhadrakali Devi Sharannavaratri (Dasara) Mahotsavam, 11 to 21 October 2026.
Significance: Vijayadashami (Dasara) celebrates victory: of the goddess over Mahishasura, and of Rama over Ravana. People worship the shami (jammi) tree, exchange its leaves as "gold" and wish each other well, and spotting the palapitta (Indian roller) is thought lucky. Nija rupa darshanam is darshan of the goddess in her own form, without the festival alankaram, and the teppotsavam carries her across the Bhadrakali lake on a float.
